Abstract

The study deals with to the development of medicine in general and its relations to development of healing traditions and superstitions during the 19th century. This issue is analyzed at one side in international comparison, but the main attention is focused on the figure of Emanuel Salomon of Friedberg-Mírohorský, one of the first pioneers of natural healing treatment (especially hydrotherapy) in the Bohemian lands. In the article are introduced numerous examples from his own personal experience, which were summarized in his extensive handwritten memoirs.
